My Willie Jolley Wealthy Ways Show guest this week is Vernice “FlyGirl” Armour, a gutsy trailblazer. Her resume is an impressive collection of “firsts” including first African-American female motorcycle police officer in St Louis and first Marine female combat aviator, plus first in her class at flight school.

Vernice went on to become a Marine Corps officer and served two tours of duty in Iraq, where she flew the AH-1W SuperCobra attack helicopter. She later served as a diversity liaison officer to the Pentagon for the Marine Corps.

After her military service, “FlyGirl” revved up her career in the private sector, by becoming a speaker, an entrepreneur, a consultant, and an author with her best-selling book, Zero to Breakthrough: The 7-Step, Battle-Tested Method for Accomplishing Goals that Matter.

Here are 11 of her trailblazing thoughts from her high-flying interview:

1. Decide what you want. Then get a plan to achieve it. Keep trying until you get it done.
   
   
2. Get a vision, a plan, then execute.. again, again, again, again.
   
   
3. Never let the “HOW” stop you from deciding on “WHAT” you want. Get focused first on “WHAT” you want, and the “HOW” second.
   
   
4. Review. Recharge. Re-attack. There are only 2 ways to succeed – the first time, or AGAIN. Do it as many times as it takes to succeed.
   
   
5. To be successful you must get gutsy! Be willing to take calculated risks.
   
   
6. Learn to trust your gut, and take action that is thought through, not haphazard. Work to constantly develop your leadership instincts.
   
   
7. Understand life can be tough and you must fight for what you want, and you already have permission to engage – to get the job done. It’s inside of you, so use it.
   
   
8. Turn the volume down on your fear and turn the volume up on your inner voice, which is your God guidance.
   
   
9. Be open to learn from every experience, even the challenging ones.
   
   
10. You do not need to see "the whole picture" to start. Just get going, keep stepping and moving forward.
    
    
11. You can have procrastination on ice, or ignorance on fire. You don’t have to have all the answers. Get moving and learn along the way.
