Hi,

Jason Dunn, the first Black Executive VP at the Greater Cincinnati Convention and Visitors Bureau, is also Chairman of the National Coalition of Black Meeting Professionals! Dunn is not only the highest level African American within the organization. He’s also the first Chair who is not a meeting planner, but a supplier.

He has accomplished all of this after graduating from high school and being unable to effectively read!

Dunn was a star athlete and charismatic “talker.” As a result, he was simply passed through high school with poor reading ability. Having gone to college on an athletic scholarship, he was not able to keep up and had to leave after his first year. But, he was able to enroll in another school near his home, and it was there that he met his future wife.

She taught Dunn how to read and encouraged him to live up to his potential! He became a good student and a well regarded community activist. Dunn began working on projects to help minorities get better opportunities in the city government, and with conventions that were coming to Cincinnati.

As a result of his efforts, the Convention Bureau saw his leadership skills and asked him to join them in their efforts to grow diversity and inclusion. He knew nothing about the hospitality industry, but worked hard to learn and grow in knowledge and wisdom.

In this enlightening interview for my SiriusXM show, Dunn shares these power points:

1. Look at your shortcomings and be honest with yourself about where you can improve.
   
   
2. Listen to good counsel and learn from them.
   
   
3. Marry well! Don’t just focus on how good they look, but also on how they always have your back and help push you to be your best.
   
   
4. Have faith in God and learn to trust that He will direct your footsteps; so step out on faith daily.
   
   
5. Be courageous.
   
   
6. Run to the fires of life rather than running away from tough situations.
   
   
7. When you find bullies in life, do not cower, but stand up to them.
   
   
8. Those who come in with a bent back will leave with a bent back; but those who stand tall will conquer tall.
   
   
9. Never stop learning.
   
   
10. Always look for ways to help others grow themselves and their businesses. As you do for others, God will do for you!
