Both Google and Facebook are launching new Apps and functionality to compete with Pinterest. You wouldn't think that Google and Facebook would be concerned about Pinterest, but they don't like the fact that Pinterest has such a loyal following.
Google is launching a Pinterest Look-a-like App called Keen and Facebook is making their Collections App more shareable to compete with Pinterest.
Google is concerned because Pinterest has turned into a visual discovery engine and focusing on the eCommerce space which is coming a little too close to Google's search engine business.
Google says that, "Keen lets you curate the content you love, share your collection with others and find new content based on what you have saved." We all know that it's what Pinterest does best, but it's not the first copycat tool that Google has launched trying to stop Pinterest from becoming too successful.
And not only has Facebook launched a look-a-like app to Pinterest called Hobbi, they have also made the Collections App more shareable so that users can organize their content and share it with their friends, etc.
While the Facebook Apps haven't been a tough competitor to Pinterest, they too just want to keep Pinterest in check. Facebook doesn't like that Pinterest keeps tapping into their marketplace.
It will be interesting to see if either Google or Facebook will make a big push for their Apps to knock Pinterest out of the game. The good news is that Pinterest has a very loyal following and I don't see Google or Facebook changing that anytime soon.
