As long as humans have been riding horses, there has been horse racing. Horses were brought to America by the colonists with the first racetrack being laid out on Long Island in 1665!

From Churchill Downs to the Saratoga Race Course, we typically find two types of horses in competition–the quarter horse side-by-side with the thoroughbred.

Quarter horses are faster than thoroughbreds for short distances. They quickly reach a top speed and are faster when it comes to acceleration.

By contrast, the thoroughbreds are taller and leaner, and but able to run longer distances with stamina, due to their Arabian heritage.

Both horses are excellent racers, depending on whether you want a sprinter or a long-distance racer.

But note, in their races, they wear blinders! The blinders keep them focused on what is in front of them.

The blinders prevent them from becoming distracted or scared by what they would normally notice if they were not wearing their blinders.

It’s the same for any of us who want to lead an extraordinary life!
