The Evolution of Writing Tools
From
the 6th to the 18th centuries, parchment paper, quills and candles were used for
writing. From the 19th to the 20th century, writers moved on to typewriters and
gas lamps.
From
the 20th to the 21st century, writers used computers and electric lamps. Now in
2024, many writers are using AI as a junior writing partner to help them with
research, outlining, proofing, editing and marketing.
AI
is just a tool. It can help people bring ideas to fruition much faster, as well
as give inspiration. And the people who use it best creatively will be the
artists, especially those who do further work to make the AI output their
own.
The
artist is the source of creativity – he or she is conscious. The AI, no matter
how “smart” it is, is not. And the artist is the source of original ideas. At
the same time, he or she is free to take inspiration and assistance from
anywhere he or she chooses, including AI.
