October 12 that 7pm. For the first time, they are devoting the entire
hour to showcasing local residents who are NOT professional advocates but
have made a positive impact in the lives of survivors and local centers!
These are dentists, surgeons, a high school basketball star...and more...who
saw a need and stepped forward to help. I hope you'll tune in to see

- 1 in 3 women and 1 in 4 men have been victims of
[some form of] physical violence by an intimate partner within their
lifetime.
- 1 in 5 women and 1 in 7 men have been victims of
severe physical violence by an intimate partner in their lifetime.
- Intimate
partner violence accounts for 15% of all violent crime.
- Women
are much more likely to be victims of intimate partner violence with
85 percent of
domestic abuse victims being women and 15 percent men.
- Every 9 seconds in the US a woman is
assaulted or beaten.
Men who as children witnessed their parents' domestic violence
were twice as likely to abuse their own wives than sons of nonviolent parents.

Money may be the reason victims stay in an
unhealthy relationship

The percentage of financial abuse that occurs
in all domestic violence cases. The number one reason domestic violence
survivors stay or return to the abusive relationship is because the abuser
controls their money supply, leaving them with no financial resources to
break free.

Wheels of Success' Road to Independence Program

Wheels of Success established its "Road
to Independence Program" to help domestic violence victims escape
their abuser. Often transportation is one of the major factors keeping them
tied in order to pick up their children from school, get to work and maintain
their independence....
