Hi,
This
week’s newsletter is a special tribute edition to my friend and mentor, General
Colin Powell.
I
am honored that General Powell was one of three African Americans who were
inducted to the Speakers Hall of Fame, as well as being featured speakers on the
National Get Motivated Tour, which included General Powell, Les Brown, and
myself.
As
a result of that connection, many years ago, I was able to interview General
Powell on my Sirius XM show.
As
a tribute to him and the incredible things he did in his life, I pulled the
interview from the archives and re-mastered it, and will air the interview this
weekend. General Powell shares awesome tips on how to win in life, both
personally and professionally.
Listen
to the powerful interview this Saturday at 4 pm ET and then again next Tuesday
and Thursday at 6 pm ET on channel 141. In the event that you do not have Sirius
XM or cannot catch the interview, you can listen to the original interview on my Willie Jolley Wealthy
Ways podcast.
Here
are 10 tips from General Powell’s for winning personally and
professionally:
- It
Ain't As Bad As You Think.
It Will Look Better In The Morning! This is
not a prediction, but rather an attitude - an optimistic attitude! After a
night's sleep, you tend to see things differently.
- Get
Mad, Then Get Over It.
Everyone gets mad, but you don't have to stay mad!
When you are mad, you cannot think clearly. And when you cannot think clearly,
you tend to make bad decisions. Calm down before you make important decisions
and take action!
- It
Can Be Done!
Success is an attitude. Those who expect to win tend to win
more than those who don't.
- Check
small things.
Small details can make big differences in success. Learn to
deal with the details.
- Share
credit.
If you fail,
take full responsibility. And if you succeed, share the credit with the team who
helped you succeed. Share credit and spread it!
- Be
kind.
Kind words cost nothing! Be kind to people, and especially to your
team.
- Understand
the power of purpose.
It is important to have a mission and a goal. But
it is critical to know your purpose because it will sustain you over the long
haul.
- Don't
take counsel of your fears or the thoughts of naysayers.
Shakespeare
wrote that our fears are traitors! And Thomas Edison said, "Some of the greatest
minds have been cut off by some of the most mediocre minds!" Don't dwell on
negative thoughts and negative people!
- Success
Comes From A Mindset Of "One Team, One Fight!"
Organizations that
resemble warring tribes usually fail. Teams that fight as one cohesive unit tend
to win! Create a winning team!
- Perpetual
optimism is a force multiplier.
Just as a home team crowd is the 12th
person in a football contest, so too is optimism – that extra force to help you
win more in business and in life. Be optimistic!
