For
Immediate Release: May 25, 2016
Damon
Racing’s Tom Sheehan will be competing in the June 4th -5th
Motor City 100 Trans-Am event during the Detroit Grand Prix. The team is
bringing their tried and trued #97 LTK Insulation Technologies Camaro to the Chevrolet
Detroit Belle Isle circuit.
Bow, New Hampshire: The Trans-Am Series’ Motor City
100 at the Detroit Grand Prix will showcase many of the top teams and drivers
representing the 50th season of the great American Series. With
Damon Racing being one of those teams, driver Tom Sheehan is both grateful for
the opportunity and enthused for the event.
“I’ve
never been to Detroit, revealed the Bow, New Hampshire racer. “ But I know a bit of the
history of this event, and of course understand the historical significance of Detroit. Detroit truly represents the American
automobile.
“This is a
big deal in my opinion; for my team, the Trans-Am Series, and me, Sheehan
continued.
With the
quick turn-around necessary for TA teams to be ready for the June 11- 12th
event at New Jersey Motorsports Park, Sheehan and Damon Racing will be
utilizing their 2015 #97 LTK Insulation Technologies Camaro racecar.
“Jamie, Pete
and I (crew chief Jamie Aube – Pete Potvin Car Chief) have chosen to bring the car we
raced at Sebring and Road Atlanta to Detroit; it’s our 2015 car, revealed
Sheehan. “ After trying some unique ideas, we’ve once more made chassis
changes.
“We tried
some things with that car at Sebring and Road Atlanta, but they didn’t produce
the results or the speed we were anticipating, said Sheehan. “ So we’ve tweaked
it a bit more using things we learned with our new 2016 car. We did some
comparison testing at The Glen, and the team and I believe we’ve now got the
best car for Detroit.”
The
Detroit Grand Prix began in 1982, while auto racing has been a part of the city
and State since 1929. Being one of the most influential cities for world
motorsports, teams and drivers involved with the Trans-Am Series understand the
significance of competing here.
“In
addition to Detroit’s importance in the automotive
world, it also stands-out because both Jack Roush and Roger Penske have made
history from that location. Their contributions to the Trans-Am Series are
huge, added Sheehan. “I see this event as very important to our 50th
season celebration. My guys and I are very excited.”
With the
Trans Am Series making its return to the Chevrolet Detroit Belle Isle Grand
Prix, for the Motor City 100, presented by the 3-Dimensional Services Group,
Trans Am continues it 50th anniversary season.
The Chevrolet
Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix will feature one of the best/most diverse lineups
in all of motorsports. The Verizon Indy Car Series will compete in a doubleheader
weekend schedule, while the exotic sports cars of the IMSA WeatherTech
Championship battle Saturday. Add Robby Gordon’s high-flying SPEED Energy
Stadium SUPER Trucks, and fans will be treated to sensory motorsports overload.
During the
Trans-Am Series portion of the Detroit Grand Prix, be sure to look for the bright
yellow Damon Racing #97 LTK Insulation Technologies Chevrolet Camaro. And if
you’re nearby stop and say hello to driver Tom Sheehan.
