Every so often something happens that causes me concern for the business community in Tampa Bay.
A person sent me an e-mail: his first mistake! I did not deserve to
get it; if he had done his homework he would see that I am not a
prospect for him at all.
In this communication with no web-site (hate that) and just a phone
number with a knology e-mail return address (nothing wrong with that
they are clients of mine) and he touted his training.
He touted his training that would help everyone from the manager, to
the sales, to customer service and included Human Resources. Too good
to be true me thinks?
So I do what I do –I called him. He proceeded to talk AT ME for 15
minutes about what he does. What kind of sales trainer is this I ask
myself – I do that, too!
On questioning this person he tells me he has taken training programs
from companies that he worked at and is re-packaging them with his
brand and will bring in interns to deliver the training! He intends to
undercut everyone out there this way.
He was uber-confident the training programs were excellent and could easily be facilitated.
Well, guys, as a trainer who takes what she does for each client
seriously and trains from my own experience with a purpose and goal; and
a trainer that knows other who train across many disciplines; are
offering expertise and results because of who they are.
This worries me. If you want to just show that you did training and
do not care about the quality of the material and the person delivering
it, more power to you.
However, if you want result and do know that you should go to someone
who can bring themselves to your table and be accountable – possibly
including coaching as well – after al we don’t really learn in one class
– then you should be cautious.
When you are investing in your people it isn’t just about money; it
is about quality, having them respect you for making them better and
about your results.
Take care out there!
