Sharing this Powerful Story with you from my good friend and colleague, Jodi Pliszka, Ph.D.abd - it's amazing!
HOW I CONQUERED DISEASE, DEATH, DIVORCE, DEBT & CREATED AN INVINCIBLE MINDSET. (Part 1)
The exact strategies you can use to sky-rocket your business and personal life!
By Jodi Pliszka, Ph.D.abd
Here’s my journey of success, failure, helping people and adding a zero to my income.
But, I have to warn you, it’s a doozy.
So, strap in, open your business brain and get ready for some revenue mind-expanding,
“mind-changing” nuggets from someone who’s been there, done that,
AND…
made the proverbial lemonade out of really sour lemons.
I am about to be 100% transparent with you.
Your ULTIMATE SUCCESS PLAN is NOT built by…
Working fewer hours
No Anxiety
No Stress
No Pains
No Worries
No Failures
No RISK
and many more negatives that repel a normal ‘corporate 9-5’er.’
This is not some post that paints rainbows and ponies for you, and it may scare you and make you feel a little uncomfortable.
But…
It’s my plan for you to take away at least ONE THING that will help you in 2019.
Let’s start this journey.
I feel that it is important to begin with my youth and then move into the present, understanding that the pain and failures in life can truly be blessings.
That is my motto to be able to optimize my present moments.
My past is the strong foundation behind me building a 7-Figure business and helping tens of thousands of people, over the past 30 years.
So, if you ever have felt like you have taken two steps forward and three steps backwards,
or if you hear that little voice in your head telling you can’t do something…
“You’re not good enough”…
“You’re not smart enough”…
“There are other people better than you are”…
“I just have the time”…
Please keep reading. I promise that your mind will be changed, forever.
I grew up with a loving mother and a hard-working father who owned a roofing company.
My dad was caring and kind, but absent throughout my childhood.
He worked from sunrise until the stars would twinkle in the sky.
My mom would hold down the fort.
All of my dad’s hard work allowed us to have a beautiful cottage on the lake.
We would spend three months of out of the year at our summer home in Hancock, Wisconsin.
Swimming across the lake…
playing tag on the raft
waterskiing and tubing…
swinging from the tire swing, jumping into the lake…
catching crayfish at night…
stargazing from the pier.
This was our little piece of heaven.
My dad would visit us on weekends. Work was always a nemesis…
to himself…
to my mother…
to his children.
This is some of the reasoning behind me providing for my daughter like I do.
I COMMIT FULLY TO SPENDING AS MUCH TIME WITH MY DAUGHTER, JESS, AS POSSIBLE.
Her Only Job…To Be A Kid.
A kid that had her mom around to share the big and little things with, a mom that could support her financially, and emotionally, as well.
After all, I knew that she would only be little once and time is a thief.
You can never get back those precious moments with your loved ones.
Quick question…
Do you ever feel like time is slipping away from you?
Are your relationships suffering, because of fear, anxiety, and self-doubt?
Did you wish that you could take your business forward but fear failure?
Has money become the root of evil in your life?
If you said “yes” to any of those questions, I hope my story inspires you.
Ok, let’s keep moving forward.
When I was 13 years old, my mom was braiding my hair and she found something that would change my life forever…
A BALD SPOT.
After seeing numerous doctors, I was diagnosed with the dreaded disorder…
ALOPECIA
An immune disorder where my body thinks hair is an infection and kills it off.
I had a few spots here and there, which I become the master of disguise…
I could hide my spots with bottles of hairspray.
It was the 80’s, so I was lucky – big hair was “in.”
After a while, the spots grew in size and I was forced to endure a painful treatment which no 13-year-old should have to experience…
I received up to 60 cortisone injections into my head, at each appointment to prompt the hair to grow.
With tears streaming down my cheeks and my legs kicking the table in pain, my mom and doctor knew that I needed to learn the power of mind control, quickly.
I learned biofeedback and the art of controlling and diverting my mind, which helped me alleviate anxiety and pain, both.
Who knew that losing my hair and learning the power of the mind, at such a young age would set me on my journey to success?
Not me!
Let’s skip a few years and move on to my 20th birthday.
I was in my Junior year at the University of Wisconsin.
I was studying business and psychology.
My friends took me out dancing to celebrate and on our way out, a group of 16-year-old girls was having fun, as well.
They were laughing and not paying attention to their driving… they turned into traffic and caused a horrific collision with our car.
I had just removed my seat belt to talk to my cousin in the back seat when,
CRASH!
My life would change forever.
No amount of mind control could prepare me for what was to come.
I awakened the next day battered and bruised – my worst possible nightmare was coming true.
There were clumps of hair on my pillow.
My Alopecia Areata turned into
Alopecia Universalis.
I was losing it all.
As I was studying, I blinked and clumps of my eyelashes fell on my white paper like a spider.
MY LIFE WAS CHANGING DRASTICALLY.
Within one month, I was forced to wear a wig and become a person with whom I did not recognize.
My parents begged me to quit school and come home and heal.
This was my pinnacle moment in life, denying their request.
I decided to brave my changes and refused to let alopecia control my life.
I WANTED TO BE IN CONTROL,
Or, the illusion of what I thought was ‘control.’
NOTE: Write this one down…Remember that,
“YOU CAN’T CONTROL CERTAIN SITUATIONS BUT YOU CAN CONTROL THE WAY YOU REACT IN THESE SITUATIONS!”
This decision helped mold me and taught me a valuable lesson.
When life gives you lemons…DON’T QUIT.
MAKE THE BEST LEMONADE YOU CAN MAKE.
Also, YOU CAN LAUGH OR CRY. CHOOSE LAUGHTER, IT CAUSES FEWER WRINKLES.
I drew back on my mind control techniques to help push myself forward through all my physical and mental changes.
I still heard my mom’s voice and that limiting belief in my mind saying…
“You need a man to take care of you!”
So, I got myself into an abusive relationship, holding on to this internal belief.
“You look like an alien and no one will ever love you more than I will”
This was the basis of my dysfunctional relationship.
I made a conscious decision to stop listening to my mom’s voice which was causing major cognitive dissonance in my mind.
This is when you believe one thing, but do something else.
I knew that I had to learn to become someone better than this.
It was at this moment that I GAVE MYSELF PERMISSION
to let go of the anger inside of me that was holding me back from growing as a person.
I allowed myself to cease all contact with my abuser and decided that my life would change on this very day…
and, IT DID.
I wept for about 45 minutes, until my clothes were damp.
I had an epiphany.
I realized that I didn’t have to carry the weight of the world on my shoulders anymore and I could relinquish my feelings of inadequacy and move forward.
It all started with making the decision to CHANGE MY MIND.
It was at this time, I did my first public appearance on NBC news, speaking out about Alopecia support.
This was back when Sinead O’Connor released her first single and adorned a shaved head look.
I wanted to pioneer my way, telling my story, offering hope to others like myself.
I started one of the first Alopecia support groups, 30 years ago, and found my calling in helping others.
Soon after, I met my husband and felt like I was in control of my life, I wasn’t letting alopecia control me anymore.
The more people I helped, the more I was supporting my own subconscious need for reassurance.
I moved to New York.
My husband was an undercover D.E.A. agent and didn’t seem to care about my hair loss.
It was my positive attitude that allowed me to have a healthy relationship, for once.
I continued helping people through support groups and working with the American Cancer Society’s Look Good Feel Better Program.
After all, I knew how to wear wigs and was healthy.
It was the least I could do to persuade women with cancer to focus on their wellness, not their hair loss.
I wanted to continue advocating for people with differences and made the decision to contact various talk shows, so I could get my story out, nationally.
I was welcomed with open arms and was able to be a featured on the…
Montel Williams Show in N.Y.C.,
Mike & Maty Show in L.A.,
Jane Whitney Show in N.Y.C.,
Ricky Lake Show in N.Y.C.
I met with celebrity stylist José Eber and was given a new outlook on life.
At this moment, I knew that my purpose for losing my hair was to step up and help others.
This led me to continue my education, to be better trained as a mindset expert.
I attended West Point Military Academy, through LIU and earned my Master’s degree (while remaining on the Dean’s list with straight A’s.) My focus was on behavioral psychology with a minor in business.
I continued for two years working on my Ph.D. in behavioral psychology with an emphasis on cognitive neuroscience.
I wanted to learn as much about the brain and how people operated.
I used my past experiences, dealing as a bald woman and working with other people with differences, as my scientific foundation.
Right before I completed my dissertation, my daughter JESS, was born.
It was truly a miracle!
I never knew complete and pure unconditional love,
until I had Jess.
THIS WAS A TOTAL LIFE CHANGER FOR ME
LEARNING THAT UNCONDITIONAL LOVE WAS POSSIBLE!
Needless to say, my husband decided differently.
He felt that he didn’t want to be a father or husband anymore.
We were on vacation in Wisconsin, celebrating our third anniversary…
my daughter was only a few months old, so we flew and he drove with his father.
After he left for home, there was phone silence for three days.
He called me and said that he would be gone when Jess and I returned to New York.
My whole world broke.
CRASH!
My mom’s voice telling me that “I needed a man in my life to support and take care of us” was screaming in my head.
How could I do this on my own?
What about our little girl?
How was I going to handle the stigma of being a single mom, now?
The thoughts were flooding in, taking over my mind.
I let them in.
I didn’t know how to handle this situation and fell into a few days depression.
Upon returning to an empty home in New York,
with my four-month-old baby in my arms…
I made another decision that would CHANGE MY LIFE FOREVER.
I refused to be a victim, again…
BEEN THERE, DONE THAT!
I decided to pool all of my information from when I had shots in my head,
when I lost my hair…
was in my abusive relationship….
And MADE THE DECISION TO NOT ONLY SURVIVE
BUT TO THRIVE
through this experience.
I didn’t want my daughter to be affected by this divorce or by my actions,
so I started writing down all the strategies that I used in the past to help me make it through these difficult moments.
Guess what?
They worked!
I was able to reconfigure my way of thinking by using my past experiences…
just like I did when I had to learn to become a strong, bald woman.
And, I was able to incorporate all of my knowledge in behavioral psychology and cognitive neuroscience
and create a NEW ME, again.
A new, ‘single mom’, version of me.
It worked.
It was a difficult divorce.
My daughter and I lost our home to foreclosure.
My ex filed bankruptcy and took me with him.
I was forced to live on credit cards, while the court was enforcing my child support.
I needed to make a change and quickly!
My daughter and I moved back to Wisconsin to be closer to my family.
I started working a 9-5 job as a Therapist/Intake manager at Aurora hospital.
I soon realized that I loved what I was doing, but I wasn’t able to see Jess as much I wanted to.
Jess was half Asian in an all-white school and I decided to help her deal
with the comments about being different like…
“Why are your eyes slanted?”
I decided to take action and put some of my strategies to work.
I wrote and illustrated two children’s books to help Jess understand differences,
Using our BALD CATS
As as the stars of the books.
YES! It’s OK to laugh with me, here!
Every bald woman needs a bald cat, right?
After one year of struggling to get published, I was able to get my books out to masses.
I even won two book of the year awards.
I WAS HELPING PEOPLE AND LOVING IT!
While settling in, I continued working on my mindset and helping Jess acclimate, as well.
I enrolled her in Taekwondo and loved it so much, I joined, too.
After a period of time, I earned my black belt.
I loved the mental and physical components that took my mindset training to an entirely new level.
At the time I liked to blend in, so I wore my wigs, while training.
I was tired of my wigs getting saturated with oils and perspiration so I was using pantiliners to keep my wigs cleaner, longer.
One day, Jess yelled across the dojo, “Mom, your pantiliner’s hanging out!”
I knew at this moment I wanted to invent something to help wig, hat, and helmet wearers have comfort and confidence, while controlling their sweat.
I put my strategies to work and asked myself the right questions…
I soon received the right answers.
I directed my thoughts to open up my mind to the possibility of setting a goal that I never believed was attainable, until now…
INVENTING A NEW PRODUCT.
After all, if I could survive shots, hair loss, abusive relationship, divorce, bankruptcy, being a single mom
I COULD DO ANYTHING.
It was all about my MINDSET and BELIEF IN A DREAM.
So, I invented the Headline It! No Sweat Comfort liners.
After writing my first patent, I received a post card in the mail from the makers of American Idol.
Simon Cowell was putting together a new show called American Inventor.
It was similar to American Idol, but inventors would audition for the show.
I thought that it was a hoax, but after a little research,
I knew that the universe was answering my questions that I specifically asked.
“How Do I Bring This Product To Market?”
I gathered up every single piece of mindset work that I ever learned, put together a killer pitch and nailed my audition.
I beat out 10,000 other inventors and then narrowed down to the top 100 and then the top 50.
With each audition, I pitched my heart out using all the passion and knowledge I learned over the years and was able to do something that only few were ever able to do…
I secured a spot as one of the top finalists,
I earned $50,000 and the opportunity to win $1 million dollars.
I worked with Simon Cowell, Doug Hall and Peter Jones, the 20th richest man in the world
AS MY MENTOR!
I learned more about patents, trademarks, prototypes and
marketing than I ever learned in my four years as a business major, (psychology minor) during my undergrad work.
I was working with the BIG BOYS getting BIG RESULTS.
LEARNING THE TRUE SECRETS OF SUCCESS
from a living legend – SIMON COWELL.
What an honor having this knowledge that I can pass on to YOU and pay it forward.
The show was seen by over 20 million people weekly,
giving me the prime opportunity to share my story and strategies with others, globally
(the show sold to 22 countries and was seen by over 60 million people, worldwide.)
MY MESSAGE OF HOPE WAS GETTING OUT THERE, QUICKLY.
I left a letter of resignation in my drawer at the hospital and after 4 weeks of working on the show,
I MADE A DECISION THAT WOULD CHANGE MY LIFE, FOREVER!
At the age of 40, I decided to QUIT MY JOB
and PURSUE MY PASSION,
MY DREAM OF BRINGING MY HEADLINE IT! PRODUCT TO MARKET.
I used all of my mindset techniques that I learned over the years and put them in motion, again…
DO YOU SEE A TREND HAPPENING HERE?
YES!
It’s all about MINDSET!
I created a business plan, controlled my anxiety, fear and overwhelm,
believing that I COULD achieve my goals...
using my cognitive priming techniques to see my Headline It! product on the market.
GUESS WHAT?
SUCCESS!
MY STRATEGIES WORKED, AGAIN!
This put me in the elite top 1% of woman inventors who not only hold a U.S. patent, but brought their product to market, independently.
I was featured in Forbes, Entrepreneur, Lifetime TV’S Heath Corner, ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX news, M Magazine and countless other media outlets around the world.
Everyone loved hearing how the bald woman from Wisconsin was able to use 4 strategies to help turn all my challenges into opportunities.
I put all my experiences together and wrote my award-winning autobiography,
BALD IS BEAUTIFUL, MY JOURNEY TO BECOMING.
I wanted to help people quickly bypass a lot of the obstacles that I endured.
By telling my story, I was able to reach a lot of unreachable people and this fueled my success fire.
I won another book award and it was deemed…
‘LIFE’S INSTRUCTION MANUAL.’
What an honor to have people feel inspired by my words.
It’s the most humbling feeling.
Would you like to read my book, drop me a note and I'll send you a free copy!
Soon after, I was approached by the V.P. of Ripley’s Believe It Or Not, Tim O’Brien, to do my story.
This led to me creating a hosting a show with Tim, called Weird Medical Maladies, since I had a strange condition, myself.
I became a celebrated radio host and the show ran for 2.5 years…
I was helping to reduce prejudice in the world by giving an education about differences.
I won the ENTERPRISING WOMAN OF THE YEAR AWARD.
I began doing Key Note speaking events, sharing my strategies and story of hope.
I was able to reach more and people,
INSPIRING and MOTIVATING them.
My dreams were coming true.
ALL OF THEM.
You might be thinking “HOW WAS THIS HAPPENING?”
ANSWER:
I wrote down my goals and used a proven process to obtain them.
A PROVEN PROCESS THAT I WANT TO SHARE WITH YOU.
Remember I told you that I used an invention service to help me with my first patent?
Well, I approached them and asked if they would like me to be their spokesperson…
they said “YES!”
This is part of how I made added a “zero onto my income” and sky-rocketed our company into the
7-FIGURES.
I learned to turn my professionally trained brain into a
