Do You Recognize Your Authentic Competition?

Although many are sometimes overwhelmed by their competition, only one authentic competitor exists. The one competitor can ruin everything in place or be the best champion for moving forward.

Reality reveals that our mindset can be our best collaborative partner or worst enemy. Underlying which direction to take has much to do with mindset as it resides in our thought process.

Two Sides to Every Story

We often hear both lines of thinking:

– It’s useless; nothing works, and it’s time to give up.

Or

– Let’s try one new strategy to see if it can work.

Mental negotiation is essential for weighing what may work best for us. It is vital always to weigh the pros and cons of everything in place and the potential new approaches to conducting business or bringing new products and services to market.

It’s typical to fear an unknown strategy. On the other hand, when nothing seems to finish according to expectations, it’s time to seriously negotiate with ourselves to figure out the next best step ahead.

Often, a mountain of troublesome effort prevents us from advancing. Worse, we can either quickly slip down the mountainside or, with concerted effort, rise back to the top and then find the next monumental mountain to climb.

Albert Einstein is still 100% correct with his wise words, even in our era of AI advancements. ‘The definition of insanity is doing the same thing repeatedly and expecting different results.’

Conflict Exists Everywhere

Negotiation begins with the individual. Even as children, we decide which adults we prefer to listen to and those who seem to waste everyone’s time by talking.

Two notes of lifetime advice continually came my way:

1.   Life is tough, and then you die.

2.   You can achieve anything you desire when you put your heart and mind to the grind for the effort to work cohesively.

Heart and Mind

Another piece of negotiation is when those who you admired ‘up until today’ tell you something is not possible, or they are unwilling to change course; it puts you at a crossroads. We each need to decide whether to agree or walk away. Our deliberate daily actions with our long-term vision will bring us to success.

Holding a long-term vision confirms that our trials and tribulations are long-term, too. However, determination and perseverance will lead us to our long-held vision.

Calculated Risk

A calculated risk can come in many formats. For example, taking time away from typical procedures to author a book can be stressful and challenging. Yet, unlike most others, the completed product is a feeling of grand accomplishment.

It may be time to review the opportunities turned down in the past and the reasons for doing so. Should any of those have been accepted? Make a promise to review each new offer thoroughly before rejecting or accepting it. Sometimes, a new thought can turn the tables for far better outcomes and is worth testing.

Most of all, pay attention to what captures your interest and attention, and that is the road to pursue improving future results.
