Occasionally I ask a client; do you use video for your customer testimonials? Very often, they look at me in quietude and sometimes disbelief. And that's when I attempt to broach the necessary yet sticky subject of getting client testimonials!
It hardly ever seems to be a challenge getting a client to send you something as a note or in an email, or in some other posting on a social media platform. My question that shocks and surprises and typically precedes a long silence is why not use your phone/camera/video app whenever you want to obtain a client testimonial? Very often the response after cogitation is, I really ought to do that. To which I always reply, so what's stopping you?
We carry some of the most powerful technology ever invented around in our pocket or pocketbook and hardly ever get it out to do what is considered key in marketing your business.
Although it is relatively easy to use, phone cameras and video apps on them seem to be last on the list of thoughts when we are about to sign off with a client. Not with me! It may be because my camera is already out during a coaching session or when I'm filming a business owner in her video commercial. I simply ask after the last good take, can I get a testimonial from you while you're on set and have the microphone available? Invariable, my clients say YES!
So, what's stopping you? It's not the ask, right? We all routinely ask for comments from a client? Is it the app? It hasn't been downloaded or the integral one on the phone has never been used? You're not sure how to do it? What if it makes the client nervous? What about video release forms so you can use her comments on the internet?
There are a host of what ifs, but each of them can be worked out if you try. That's the key. Try! Once you get used to getting their personalities speaking for you and your business, you'll never go back to plain old textual comments.
