Jim
Ball was the President and Founder of The Goals Institute, one of the leading
goal education organizations in America.
I
had the great fortune of interviewing Jim about a year before he passed away.
He’s been gone about ten years now. But, as I thought about the best expert on
goal-setting and goal-achieving, I couldn’t help but think about Jim Ball! I
went to my archives and was able to find his original interview!
This
powerful interview will help you see the importance and value of goals; and then
identify his strategies for setting goals...and finally, how to approach
achieving your goals.
Jim Ball shared a number of powerful points. Here are a few: - Everyone has goals, but most people have low grade, no grade goals. They have a goal to hang out and “shoot the breeze” with their friends, or to play video games all day, or to get some quick food and then go to sleep. Yet those people who are the top achievers have high grade, focused, compelling goals that help them create greater successes.
- People who learn to grow their goals start with small successes, which creates the ability to grow to bigger and bigger successes.
- Many believe Napoleon Hill’s book, Think and Grow Rich, is all it takes to be a success—the emphasis is on the word “think.” But in real life, the book should be called Think and Act—continue to think and act and you will grow rich!
- You must be action oriented to achieve great results.
- Focus is essential to achieving great goals. An acronym for F.O.C.U.S. is to Follow One Course Until Successful.
- Watch out for WMDs (Weapons of Mass Distractions)
- Don’t just be a goal-setter, make the commitment to be a “goal-getter” and a goal-achiever.
- Start with one goal, then after hitting it, you go to another. And after hitting that goal—you go on to another and then continue the process.
- Of all the goals you can pursue, your #1 Goal should be your Health Goal, because without good health, it becomes more difficult to achieve your other goals.
- You are writing the book of your life every day. One day you will look back and see what you accomplished because you get to determine what your book will say!
