Dave
Yoho is a multi-millionaire, many, many times over. He’s one of the leading
industry experts in home building and has one of the oldest consulting firms in
America. And, he’s still making great things happen into his mid-nineties!
“Pop”
as I affectionately call him, was a founding member of the National Speakers
Association (NSA) and is still an “in-demand speaker” and industry expert!
His
master skills are negotiating and operating businesses to be profitable. Plus,
he’s a master at teaching others how to create wealth.
I
asked Pop to share with my Sirius XM listeners some of the secrets he used to go
from living through the Great Depression, enlisting in the Army during World War
II (after dropping out of high school), returning to earn his G.E.D., then
putting himself through college and graduate school at night. And this was all
done while working all day!
He
began his speaking and consulting business at age 28, and now, at 94 years
young, he works with the same passion.
But
today, Pop doesn’t work for the income, but rather for the impact it will have
on his clients and the legacy he will leave for his family.
Here
are 10 wisdom wealth-building pearls from Pop Yoho:
- Work
Hard! It creates character and dignity and is good for your longevity!
- To
learn is a gift, so make the most of it. Be a lifelong learner.
- To
earn money, you must give value. Once you earn the money, then you must make the
money create greater value by investing it.
- Learn
about investing and do not invest in things you do not understand or just
because someone gave you a “hot” tip. Take time to learn.
- Get
educated about investing and taxes. Part of wealth-building is not just making
money, but keeping more of your money with proper tax planning.
- Set
up and fund your Individual Retirement Account (IRA) and a Simplified Employee
Pension (SEP) to legally minimize your retirement tax bite.
- Never
pay interest! And ALWAYS ask for a
discount!
- Always
save a portion of what you make. Never spend it all.
- Build
a business that will impact future generations.
- If
you’re going to be poor at any time in your life, it’s better to be poor when
you are young! You have time to
recover!
