How To Plan Your Way To Great Achievements
Hi,
This
week, the special guest on my Willie Jolley Wealthy Ways SiriusXM Show is author
of the best-selling book, Unapologetically
Ambitious, Shellye Archambeau.
She
is an amazing woman who set her sights to become a CEO while in high school, and
accomplished that goal quickly. She has gone on to create an incredible list of
achievements!
Shellye
is the former CEO of MetricStream, a Silicon Valley-based, software company that
she built into a global market technology leader. She currently serves on the
boards of Verizon, Roper Technologies and OKTA.
In
her book, she recounts how she overcame the challenges she faced as a young
Black woman, wife, and mother managing her personal and professional
responsibilities while climbing the ranks at IBM and subsequently in her roles
as CEO of MetricStream.
Through
the tech sector challenges of the early 2000s, this bold and inspiring book
details the risks she took and the strategies she engaged to steer her family,
her career, and her company MetricStream toward success.
Shellye
Archambeau was named the second most influential African American in IT by
Business Insider. She was ranked one of the “100 Most Influential Business
Leaders in America” by Newsmax and received the NCWIT Symons Innovator Award
from The National Center for Women & Information Technology.
In
addition to her latest best-selling book, she is the co-author of, Marketing
That Works: How Entrepreneurial Marketing Can Add Sustainable Profits to Any
Sized Company. She’s also a frequent featured expert on national television
such as CNBC and CNN.
Here
are 14 lessons gleaned from Archambeau’s life journey:
- Planning
is the key to her success and planing should not be a one-time thing. It must be
a part of your lifestyle.
- Planning
gives your life clarity. It will help you get clear on a way to achieve your
goals and get the life you want to live.
- Planning
takes discipline. Yet, all long-term success is the result of discipline. In
health, wealth and relationships…it takes discipline.
- Make
sure your financial plan lines up with your life plan for both will be
important.
- The
tool that can help any and every one in business is learning how to sell. It
will be a great asset over the life of your business.
- Cheerleaders
are on football fields for they help the team stay inspired. We all need
cheerleaders in our lives.
- Be
willing to go on the belief that others have in you until your belief kicks
in.
- If
you have no one to encourage you, learn to encourage yourself. Use music and
motivation to help you get inspired.
- To
create wealth, you must watch your spending and think about how that money could
be used to grow wealth. Take a long-term view of wealth creation.
- Money
spent today is less money that can be applied to the plan you have made for your
future. So, spend carefully and thoughtfully.
- In
creating a wealth strategy always look for equity opportunities so you can have
a piece of ownership of what you are involved in.
- When
people ask what you do, don’t just tell them your title. Explain the work you do
and make sure to share the results you create.
- Be
willing to ask for help. Asking for help is a strength not a weakness.
- Mentors
are powerful tools, so make the most of them. Then in return, look for those
coming after you that you can help and mentor.
