And the winner is...

Greetings Venusian!

Welcome to my world.

There's so much goodness to share this month!
Lil Red is Riding to a few festivals!

And the winner is... Lil Red!

I am thrilled and humbled to announce that my first-ever animated short film, Lil Red is Riding the Wrong Way in the Hood, has won "Best Animation" at the Portugal Indie Film Festival, and is already an official selection at several other festivals, including the Silicon Valley African Film Festival and the LA Femme International Film Festival! Read on...
The first public screening of Lil Red will occur at the Silicon Valley African Film Festival (SVAFF.org). This prestigious event takes place October 14-15 at the Historic Hoover Theatre in San Jose, California.

Get your tickets now at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/14th-annual-silicon-valley-african-film-festival-svaff-tickets-706421143657.
From there, we go to Los Angeles for the LA Femme International Film Festival (LAFIFF) on October 19-22. LAFIFF is a premier festival that focuses on platforming women filmmakers “by women, for everyone”.

Tickets for LA Femme can be purchased at https://lafemme.org/film-screenings-2020/tickets-2021-festival/.
I've attended many film festivals over the years, either to cheer friends, support the industry, or simply for fun. It is utterly surreal to be on the other side of the table, presenting my own film! I hope you'll be able to join me for one of these events!

Lil Red tackles the serious problem of human trafficking in a safe way for children, parents/guardians, teachers, and other members of the community. Thanks to tireless advocates and the recent blockbuster success of the feature film Sound of Freedom, there's more attention to this important issue than ever before.

Learn more about Lil Red at lilredmovie.com. And if you missed my interview on the "Love Never Fails" podcast, check it out here. Are you a patron or close family member that made the VIP screening? Here's a short video of me talking about my experience:
SHERO SPOTLIGHT
Last weekend, I had the utmost pleasure to treat beloved family member to an early birthday treat and Hattie loved Tina, one mesmerizing musical. It stars an incredible cast of talented performers. If you're a fan of Tina Turner's work, this musical production is not to be missed!

The role of young Anna-Mae was played by the supremely talented Ayvah Johnson, and Zurin Villanueva rocked the house as the adult Tina, delivering top notch vocals and dance routines for over 20 twenty songs. It was jaw dropping, and as luck has it, I'm waiting for my husband Steve to pull the car up and both of these rising stars crossed my path, after the show!
As the author of the book She Rose, I'm in awe at all of the thought provoking female artists making it to mainstream stages. Barbie also made the womanist and equity lover in me smile and think of my poem "Gender Rules." I never thought I'd live to see it but, A woman. A man., I trust that a greater sense of balance may return again, if you know what I mean. It's been a few months since my last update, and there's so much more to come.

Want to join me on this journey? There's no better way than to become a patron on Patreon. Your financial pledge allows me to reach a wider audience and gives you access to She Rose Weekly, an upcoming podcast in the works and writing and reciting workshops.

Have you raised funds for films in the past, love playing with AI, and/or do you have a passion for social media management? Email me at info@venusjones.com, and I'll share more about emerging opportunities.

If you're not able to become a financial patron at this time, just know that you can spread the word about lilredmovie.com, so parents and educators can start having more discussions about how we earn and lose each other's trust.

Feel free to share this email update and ask a friend to subscribe. Lastly, you can leave encouragement and kind words in the chat.

Let's keep looking up and keep looking out.
When we do there's a lot less fear and a lot less doubt.

Love Always...
