Putting a domestic violence survivor
on the Road to Independence
On July 2, GTE Financial helped a Wheels of Success recipient celebrate their own independence day with the freedom of a car. Andrea was traveling on four buses to get to a job only 15 minutes away, and was forced to move closer to work because the unreliability of the bus threatened her employment. Andrea is also completing a degree in special needs education, but had to take a year off of school due to transportation issues.
Receiving her vehicle through Wheels of Success' Road to Independence program, which helps victims of domestic violence regain their independence, Andrea can now accomplish her career, education and personal goals thanks to safe and reliable transportation.
Andrea will also be able to return to her regular volunteer activities. In the past she raised funds for terminally ill patients, and volunteered at Shriners Hospital - providing bilingual assistance. Now that she is back on the road, she can show her dedication to her community by returning to this charitable work and paying forward the blessings she has received.
