There were 50 Million Users accounts in the latest Facebook Security Breach so you can be sure that there is a good chance that your personal information has been compromised.
The bugs in their software where the breach took place were in 3 places, two of them were in a tool that Facebook introduced to improve privacy after the trouble they were in with the Cambridge Analytica scandal (that exposed 87 million users private information). The third bug was from a tool that Facebook introduced in 2017 to make it easy for people to upload their birthday videos.
This is really a problem with the European Union since they implemented their new General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) earlier this year. Facebook is facing a $1.6 billion fine and a new class action lawsuit has already been filed in the U.S.
Here are some things that you can do to protect your data:
~ change your password frequently
~ don't forward any messages in Messenger
~ always verify before accepting a friend request
~ if you get a Friend Request from someone you are already friends with, verify it and then report it to Facebook as a stolen identity
~ if you get an email from Facebook saying your password has been changed and it wasn't you, then follow the instructions immediately to reclaim your account
- if your account does get hacked and you have a credit card attached to your account for advertising, notify your credit card company immediately and cancel the card
