AHHHHHHH!!! I can't stand it anymore!
As a voice talent, it's very hard for me to listen to commercials on the radio and TV.
For several months now there has been one that cuts me to the core.
This commercial is for a local doctor and there are about 6 to 8 paitients of his who are stating they have chosen Dr. such and such. When the commercial cuts away from the paitients to the graphics, a voice over gives out contact information for the practice and the talent absolutly butchers the doctor's name!
I just can't imagine how that commercial made it to the airwaves with such an obvious mistake.
If I were voicing the spot, I would have called and found out how to pronounce the name and not just relied on my interpretation of the script. At that point if I still screwed it up and heard it on the air, I would have called the client, first to apologize, then to make sure that the mistake I made was corrected.
It just seems to me that it would be such an easy fix and makes me very curious as to why it wasn't fixed... Was the talent dificult to work with and didn't want to fix it? Because of production deadlines, did the talent even have an oportunity to fix the mistake?
When you decide to invest into an advertisement wheather it be radio, TV, or even internet, you want to make sure that all elements (production, talent, editing, ect.) are done professionally and to your satisfaction.
A good voice talent and production team should be able to get it done (and done right!) in only a few takes.
