I am not claiming by any stretch of the imagination to be an SEO expert. As a matter of fact, I’m the exact opposite. What’s that old saying? “I know just enough to be dangerous…” When I saw an article on Hummingbird, Google’s new algorithm, I thought ‘oh no here we go again… I still haven’t figured out the last change that Google made!’
So, I’ve decided to share and explain it the way that it was explained to me (in lemans terms):
Hummingbird plans to go back to a grassroots customer service type of ranking. They are moving toward a more conversational type of search as people start to use more mobile devices and the voice activated searches on those devices.
For example: If you’re looking for the best apple pie in town, you might (like me) put in the search box or say out loud to your device “Who has the best Apple Pie in town?” Whereas before we had a computer trying to solve our real world problems based upon a few “keywords” that were entered by both parties hoping they would match up.
So, if you’re writing a blog about apple pie and put questions and answers into your text like “why do we have the best apple pie in town? Because we only use fresh apples that have been grown locally” your chances of showing high in rank are a lot better because you are answering a question for the person searching.
NOW… If you add video to that content, Google will push you even further up the list, because you have relevant content in visual form. Instead of me rewriting why video is so important for your on-line content, I want you to take a look at this blog by Amanda Sibley. She gives some great statistics about video: 19 Reasons You Should Include Visual Content in Your Marketing Data
So, what do you need to do next? Well, go back to customer service as you know it. Provide good content (value), a lot of content (inventory), and good customer service by explaining how you can help your customers and answer their questions about your products or services.
I’m sure you are now asking yourself, why does a voice talent care about this kind of stuff and why is she giving advice about it?
Well, I have been introduced to a system of recording, producing, editing, and uploading video straight to YouTube that is very cost effective for small businesses. So not only can I voice a video, but I can produce the video as well.
Please leave me a comment if you’ve found that video has helped you solve your customers wants and needs or contact me to setup a time when we can discuss how we can add this powerful tool to your marketing strategy.
