Most of you reading this know nothing about me, so here I am in
a nutshell.
I’ve been married for over 22 years, I’m a mom of three teenage
girls and I’ve got an entrepreneurial streak that has run through me since
childhood.
About five years ago, I decided to create a new career for
myself as a voice talent. It was a discipline that required creativity and articulation, two existing skills I wanted to further develop.
A voice talent is someone who is part of a final - and bigger -
production project, like a radio or TV commercial.
It’s a very tough business to get into and an even harder one in
which to make a living. Eventually, I realized that I would need to learn
another skill within the production field to maintain an edge and market more
value to the end users of my services. I needed to learn how to create
the videos I was voicing.
Now, I’m not going to mislead you by claiming that I am out
there making ready-for-primetime commercials. However, my quest to find ways to produce videos brought me
front and center with something called The Pocket Producer System™. By using
this system, I now have the skills to create videos for small businesses
seeking to upgrade their social media marketing plans. Today, I offer not only
a professional voice that can expertly convey their audio message; I am able to create videos, too.
Perhaps you’re thinking, I can’t do video. How would that help
me anyway?
Let me address the “Why
do I need video?” question first:
If you own a small business, are offering a service or need to
establish credibility in your field YOU NEED VIDEO. Having a standard digital
presence (SDP) - whether on Facebook, LinkedIn, Google+ or YouTube - is vital
to survive in business today.
When individuals do a search for products or services, Google
now ranks sites with video higher in its search results. So if you want to be
found on the Internet, you need to create relevant, quality video for your
business. People are searching more pointed and conversational questions and
your videos can and should address these issues.
In addition, people want to be entertained. And what could be
more entertaining than video?
Check out this link that gives some insight as to how we
interpret and process video. (http://www.reelseo.com/video-important-future-marketing/)
Now to the “I can’t do video” objection you’re contemplating.
You’re wrong! You can do video, plain and simple. Why? Because if I can do
video, so can you. It might sound cliché but it is absolutely true.
Remember me saying that I had to find a route to getting to the
end user faster? Approximately 7 months ago, I had the opportunity to take a
class that taught me how to take advantage of the technology that I carry
around with me every day: my iPhone.
Earlier in this article, I referenced something called The
Pocket Producer System™. The system was created for the everyday person using
their iPhone, iPad or iPod. By learning this system, it has enabled me to
express ideas in a completely new medium beyond just voice. In addition, it has
created another stream of income for me and, with it, a feeling of freedom.
It’s a comforting thought that if something were to happen to my husband, the main source of income for our family, I would have the ability to support myself.
