Meet Darcy Gootson - Our Newest Addition to the Wheels of Success Team!

?Darcy originally met our CEO while doing a site visit for a private donor. When the donor moved out of the area, she referred Darcy to us as she knew we had a position we had been trying to fill and thought Darcy would be the perfect fit. She was right! Darcy is our Client Coordinator/Case Manager and will also be assisting our CEO with administrative duties.

While you can often teach the needed skills, you can’t teach people empathy. Prior to coming to Wheels of Success, Darcy was a licensed nurse and understands “customer service”. As long as she can remember she always wanted to help people. After her original site visit to the charity, Darcy saw the impact Wheels had with helping others making Wheels of Success very attractive to her.

Throughout her nursing experience, Darcy witnessed patients having difficulty making it to doctor’s appointments because they were reliant on the bus system for transportation - or had no way to get there. Now when applicants come to the charity, Darcy is first in line to determine applicants' eligibility and next steps.

“I enjoy doing a variety of things throughout the day so being at Wheels will keep me on my toes while brushing up on and learning new skills. With something always in the works and ever changing, I look forward to helping the organization grow and growing with the organization.”

Waiting for Wheels

Jane (name is changed for safety purposes) comes to Wheels of Success as a caregiver of 16 years. She was referred to us through a local shelter outreach program after recently relocating to the area to escape a domestic violence situation. She will be starting her new position as a caregiver at a local hospital and hopes to continue her education to become an RN.

In order to get to the hospital during differential shifts when public transportation is often not available, Jane needs a car! To add to her responsibilities, she is a single mom caring for 3 children, two of whom are involved in sports and require transportation to and from practice.

We spoke to Jane after she completed our car care class and she commented, “The car care class was very resourceful and helpful.” Where I come from, they do not have any programs like this and it’s an incredible opportunity to get everything going in the right direction. I like the fact that you still have responsibility and accountability to get on your feet. It is truly wonderful and a blessing.”
