Hi,
I hope you had a great 4th of July holiday... you may even be continuing the festivities this whole week.
I found myself walking in a 4th of July parade with a bunch of dogs from my local animal shelter of which I volunteer one day a week. One of the dogs we brought with with us has been at our shelter for 150 days. Why? Because he happens to be a big, stocky, full-bread pit bull which many people assume is dangerous just based on the breed.
However, he is a giant baby, and after only making it half way on the parade route before pooping out, he decided he was going to make himself comfortable in someone's house that happened to be along the parade route.
Long story short, this family LOVED him, and put in an application to adopt him. This moment reminded me exactly WHY I chose to walk over a mile in the 90 degree, full-sun weather, walking dogs and pulling adoptable rabbits in a cart, with stupid amounts of humidity, sweating my butt off, on a holiday.
There are many instances where we don't feel like showing up in our business. We make excuses, talk ourselves out of becoming an active HCC member, creating that new program, or signing up for that Member Spotlight to go live in front of the HCC audience.
But if we come back to our big WHY, the whole purpose behind WHY we are doing what we are, mostly likely it's tied to making a huge difference in someone's life!
If we DON'T show up, someone suffers. A dog doesn't get adopted. Nor does a family get to experience the joy of having a big, fat, pit-bull love-bug in their home.
What is your big why? Why are you in the business that you are in? Remind yourself. And if you need to take more action, make a plan and do it!
