My Sirius XM radio show guest this weekend is a superstar. He’s a New York Times best-selling author, who has sold over 2 million copies of his book, Trust.

He and his father, both best-selling authors, have similar names…Stephen Covey! Stephen “R.” Covey wrote the global bestseller, The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People. This weekend, I get to interview his son–Stephen “M.R.” Covey–who has also changed the publishing industry.

Stephen M.R. Covey, initially having success on Wall Street, decided to run his father’s Franklin Covey Company and took it from $2 million dollars annually to over $160 million dollars a year!

Stephen has authored the book, The Speed of Trust. During my interview with him, he not only shared how the "7 Habits" were implemented in his home as he was growing up, but he also shared how those principles helped him grow a massive business on his own.

In addition, Stephen shared the following power tips for success:

• Begin with the end in mind. Build the building in your mind; and from that picture in your mind, can come the building in real life!
  
  
• Be Proactive. Take action! Don't wait for your ship to come in...swim up to it!
  
  
• Do not let the initial challenges stop you from continuing to take action–even if you need to change how you pursue that goal!
  
  
• Think Win/Win. Look for ways to help others win and you will win more.
  
  
• Seek first to understand and then to be understood. Listen first and get clarity.
  
  
• Trust matters! Trust is having confidence in others; it undergirds every relationship, every communication, every business venture we engage in.
  
  
• When trust goes up, speed goes up and profits go up! There are definitely economic benefits to trust.
  
  
• Trust is learnable! Most think you either have it or you don't, but in reality, you can build trust on purpose.
  
  
• Successful people–both personally and professionally–understand the importance of trust.
  
  
• Little things make a big difference. For example, do what you say you will do. Keep your word!
  
  
• Talk Straight! People might not want to hear the hard truth, but actually hate it when you’ve twisted the truth and they learn the truth later.
  
  
• Trust starts with a small pebble–self-trust.
  
  Like a pebble in the pond, which create waves, there are 5 waves of trust: 1) self trust, 2) relationship trust, 3) team trust, 4) market trust and 5) societal trust.
  
  
• Trust can be restored by consistent trustworthy actions.
