This week, the special guest on my Willie Jolley Wealthy Ways SiriusXM Show is Seth Godin.

Seth is a marketing phenom and amazing thought leader. He has one of the most popular blogs in the world and has numerous New York Times best-selling books. His newest book, The Song of Significance: A Manifesto for Teams and the People Who Lead Them, is his soulful re-envisioning of what work and leadership can be.

Godin earned his MBA degree from The Stanford Graduate School of Business and worked as a software brand manager before starting ‘Yoyodyne’, one of the first Internet-based direct-marketing firms, with revolutionary ideas on how companies should reach their target audiences.

The publicity of his firm compelled big companies like Volvo, Microsoft, Sony Music, etc. to associate with it. After a few years, Yahoo bought the company for about thirty million dollars and kept Seth Godin on as a vice president of permission marketing.

Godin is a successful entrepreneur, marketer and public speaker and has been inducted into The Marketers Hall of Fame and The Direct Marketers Hall of Fame!

1. Figuring out who your customers are is the first step in figuring out what your future is going to be.
   
   
2. Connections are not limited to who's in the office with you. Work with people all around the world to make things that are in everyone's interest.
   
   
3. Realize that all help really is self-help, so always work on self and help others.
   
   
4. Decide that you want to make a difference. Decide that you want to lead. Make a ruckus and show up to make things better. That decision has to happen before the success – not after.
   
   
5. Strive to do work that is so good that people would miss if it were gone.
   
   
6. Strive to be relevant. Get rich in your niche. Find a sliver that is your playground – your sandbox – and really own it.
   
   
7. Focus on "permission marketing."
   
   
8. Media keeps changing. Economics keep changing the rules. The climate is changing. All of these are forks in the road. Don’t deny it. Realize there's a fork in the road and take it. What you have is an opportunity.
   
   
9. Create conditions for your community so that the community can get what they want and can get there together. When we lead together we are smarter, fairer, and more resilient.
   
   
10. Seek possibility, connection and dignity. Dignity isn't something you can take, but something you can give. See other people for who they want to be and help them get there.
    
    
11. Seth surveyed over 10,000 people in 90 countries asking them: "What was the best job you ever had, and why?"
    
    The top 3 answers were: 1.) "I accomplished more than I thought I could accomplish," 2.) "People treated with me with respect," and 3.) "I got to work with other people I cared about."
