Family of Five Reunited With Reliable Wheels:
A family of five, with children 13, 11 and 9 were kicked out of the home they shared with relatives. To keep from sleeping in their van, they moved to a small motel room, where someone reported them to the Department of Children and Families and the children were removed. Now, one year later, they are being reunited with the help of Joshua House; the final stipulation that they have reliable transportation, which theirs is not.
That's where Wheels of Success stepped in after receiving their application from Joshua House. Wheels was able to provide a car for the family within less than two weeks, since the father can drive stick shift and one was available (because most of our applicants cannot drive a standard transmission).
The funding to "Build-A-Car" was provided by GTE Financial, a Wheels partner.
About Donating A Car to Wheels of Success http://www.wheelsofsuccess.org/want-to-help/index.html
You receive the greatest tax advantage for your donation because we try not sell your car at auction but present it to a family so you can deduct the fair market value of the vehicle.
Verinica Gets Her Title: Successful Completion of Our Program
In 2012, Verinica received her 2002 Honda Accord and now almost 5 years later it is still running with over 300,000 miles and very few repairs. Now she is ready to trade up to our ABC- GTE Program.
Looking back, Verinica said she could not have known all that was about to change for her. Receiving reliable transportation from Wheels provided her with the opportunity to fulfill her lifetime dream of returning to school. She has since graduated with a degree in Cosmetology.
Verinica now sets her own hours and is financially able to provide for her family. She recently stopped by to receive her title and start the process to go through our ABC-GTE Program which provides interest free car loans to recipients successfully completing the
Wheels Program.
Waiting for Wheels: Latoya's Story
Wheels of Success has used the fictitious name "Latoya" in this article to protect her identity as a domestic violence survivor.
Latoya's supervisor contacted Wheels when he discovered she had resorted to spending $184 a week on rental cars so that she would not be late or absent from her job, when her car broke down and was no longer worth fixing. He states that he knows of "No one more deserving for a Wheels' vehicle". He is looking forward to attending the presentation when Latoya receives her vehicle.
Latoya is a single mom of two children, 15 and 7 years old. She is starting over after "kicking out" her abuser. With a positive attitude and an amazing strength to rise above her situation, Latoya has become an example to all those around her of what hard work and determination can do. Between her full and part time jobs, she works 16 hours a day to provide her children with a safe home, food and clothing.
