I loved staying in Stratford upon Avon - The home of William Shakespeare. Shakepeare died in 1616 at the age of 52. I will admit I have not been a fan and never really understood the olde English form of speech.Shakepeare is credited for creating over 1,700 new words. It is amazing to think of the influence his wordsmith has had on our society.
That alone amazes me considering the times were full of death from famine and desease. It was very possible your next illness could be your last!
The pictureesque riverside village of 25,000 is warm and charming and in some fashion it seems everyone is supported by the tourism the The Royal Shakespearean Theatre provides.
Restaurants were plentiful and varied. Inns and Townhomes were very quaint. The Red Bus tour offers a wonderful overview of the area and times.
I learned the source of several common phrases; frog in your throat, left on the shelve and the source of the word bonfire!
More to come.
