Have you ever wanted
to do something that has never been done before? So many answer “Yes” to that
question yet most people don’t want to work over 40 hours a week, even if they
get paid overtime!
It’s safe to
assume you will not be initially compensated to do something never done before.
To do this “something”, you must spend a lot of time, energy, and money without
any guarantee you will ever get return on your investment. This is the primary
reason many people continue to do what they have always done - they know what
to expect - they work 40 hours; they get paid. They work Monday – Friday, no
weekends, they take their vacation time, and get paid for personal days off,
receive benefits, etc.
However, to do
something that has never been done before, you must do something you
have never done before! You may need to learn a new type of expertise. Would
you be willing to spend the next five years educating yourself before/after
work to earn this new type of expertise? Would you quit your job and work 12
hours a day, six days a week to earn your certification and gain knowledge in
half the time? What if several new areas of expertise are needed? Would you
take two or three specific educational courses and spend the next 7 1/2 years
working six days a week, 12 hours a day?
What if there is
an easier way to do something that has never been done before? Would you want
to know about it? If yes read on:
- Write
down your ideas. Review your ideas, review your ideas many times, make tweaks
to gain clarity.
- Create
a master plan, a blueprint, a step-by-step plan. Consider creating a type of
how-to manual.
- Start
with the end-result in mind. Write your plan backwards - you must know what you
want first, then create a path backwards to end up there.
- When
you find new or additional areas of expertise needed to implement your idea,
consider this before you sign up for the classes and spend the next five years
acquiring that area of expertise. Consider hiring an expert!
You can check out the
expert’s education, experience, level of expertise, then contact the expert
directly to see if they are a good candidate for your project. Keep in mind, you
may need to interview several experts before finding the right one for your
project. Concentrate on hiring a team with the education, experience, and
expertise you need to move your idea forward - Most things that have never been
done before sound crazy to the world or they would have been done by now!
