Tom Sheehan and Damon Racing well
prepared for Trans-Am Series return to Watkins Glen and Classic Tube 100
For
Immediate Release: May 11th - 2016
When Bow, New Hampshire’s
Tom Sheehan steps onto the grounds at Watkins Glen International for this
weekend Classis Tube 100 he’ll be doing so with increased enthusiasm.
St. Petersburg, Florida: The 3rd event of the 2016 Trans-Am
season will see Damon Racing debut a new #97 Chevrolet Camaro for Sheehan.
Sponsored by LTK Insulation Technologies, the team continues to advance in TA2
competition.
Sheehan is
one of the many professional TA2 racers coming to ‘The Glen’ in pursuit of the
2016 Championship during the 50th season celebration of the Trans-Am Series.
Combined with
that new racecar buzz, the weekend promises to deliver added excitement for other
reasons as well. After a three year absence, the Classic Tube 100 marks the
return of the Series to the race track, that it seems, most race fans acquaint to
the iconic American championship.
“I think
even the most casual race fans recognize the part Watkins Glen has played in
the life of the Trans-Am Series, explained driver Tom Sheehan.
“Whenever
I’m asked what I race, and I answer Trans-Am, the very next question is
usually; do you race at Watkins Glen? I think that tells us plenty about the
admiration fans have for both the Series, and the track.
“It is
positively my favorite, Sheehan continued. For whatever reasons – the way it
flows, its rhythm – who knows? This track has always suited me well.”
With solid
set-up sheets and a log-book from their other car, it wasn’t difficult for
Damon Racing to choose which track to debut their new race car. The fact that
their driver enjoys the place and enters his comfort level quicker supports the
choice.
“We new
even before completing our new Howe Chassis based Camaro that Watkins Glen
would be where we’d bring it out first,” said Sheehan. “Our familiarity and
grasp of this track should allow us to be competitive right out of the box.”
For
Trans-Am, this Series race marks the debut of the AEM spec Infinity engine management
system. The new Damon Racing #97 car was built with that system in place - with
Sheehan a supporter of the commitment Series officials have made to the concept
of the TA2 class.
“Over the winter
we significantly increased our commitment to the Series,” Sheehan revealed. “We
believe strongly in the common ECU and engine package now in place for the
Series and are excited for the future.
“I don’t
believe we’ve ever worked harder at preparing for a specific race as we have
for this one. In all honesty, Damon Racing is looking for a solid increase in ability
and competitiveness.
Look for
the Damon Racing #97 in the TA2 Race event on Sunday May 15th at 9AM followed by the TA/TA3/TA4/TA5
Races at 3PM
