‘Tis the Season……..Perspective Shift
We’re in the midst of it – The Season. The season we all look forward to. The season we often dread. The season that brings joy, laughter, love. The season that brings overwhelm, exhaustion, expense. How do you view this time of year? The perspective we bring into this particular season determines what we’ll bring out of it. When my children were young, I was so determined to make the season perfect – all the cookies, decorations, shopping, gifts wrapped beautifully, parties held, etc to make it wonderful for them, that I was making all of us miserable. I focused far too much on the tasks of the season and not nearly enough on the feelings of the season. When I realized what was happening (and it took several years to recognize it), I reversed the focus – more on connecting with people, the joyful parts of the season, the fun, the meaning. I still do all the things I did before, but not to the same degree. I’m absolutely willing to let go of perfection – Martha Stewart doesn’t live here anymore! It’s made all the difference – for everyone. The Challenge: What can you let go of this season to allow for a happier, more connected, more meaningful time?
