The 21st century; so far The Jetson's version of the world is not on the horizon, but one thing has happened in the business world is what seems at times an overwhelming onslaught of information, and vendors of products and services in every industry. Makes it really hard to separate your business from the others.
Research on business marketing shows a clear correlation between someone's biz cred developed through their reputation as an expert in their field, and business growth.
So, here are some ways you can "get the word out" about your expertness (not sure that's a word, but hey, it works...):
- At networking and other business events, offer expert ideas and advice to others in lieu of "selling" yourself or your business - let that advice do the selling for you
- Offer 1-2 tips that folks can use right away on your website, then have visitors sign up for a periodic communication that offers more
- Find a resource that will get you in front of great number of folks at one time (preferably thousands or tens of thousands), in a way that allows you to demonstrate your expertise to attendees/listeners/viewers on a regular basis
The more you become known as the "go-to" expert in your industry/field, the more buzz you will create, and business you will see. And without the "hard selling" many of us don't like, and frankly don't do well (which isn't always a bad thing...).
And, you get to build revenues doing what you do best; being the best at what you do!
