I have recently traveled from the UK - Scotland- Eastern Europe to South Africa. 90 % of this travel was personal mixed with a bit of business.
Traveling gives me the opportunity to connect with local people from all walks of life and backgrounds.
Though success means something different to everyone, there are consistent themes that keep surfacing. No matter if you are Restaurant entrepreneur or a outback bush park ranger leading tours of people from all over the world on game drives I have found these consistent points.
I have spoken many times about these and still feel anyone embracing can achieve success and happiness.
For simplistic purposes I call it looking for your MASCOT. We can all identify with a team mascot somehow, or we are at least familiar.
M- Mentors - find good mentors who can guide you, inspire you and hold you accountable.
A- Attitude - your attitude will decide how you embrace the world and the world will embrace you. As John Woodan - UCLA coaching great told me when I was a 16 yr old kid, Don't let what you can't do get in the way of what you can do.
S- Selfless Make it bigger than yourself. Needless to say we live in a what's in it for me society. If you can solve problems for others and make it bigger than yourself- success follows.
C-Courage - Courage is the foundation for all other values. It's your values that lead you to your success. Courage is needed to overcome the obstacles you undoubtedly will face along the way. Courage is just breaking through your fear and comfort zone. Nothing more.
O- Opportunity- Opportunity is presented to us all. Think about it. How many times have the missed opportunity could have been yours if you embraced the above? Remember opportunity comes in the form of problems! When you are confronted with a problem, get out of your own way and see the opportunity within.
T-Take your shot- When this opportunity presents itself seize the moment and take your shot! I don't remember all the success I have had in my life - I will never forget the times I could have BUT did not take the shot !
Like I said there is now one definition of success. Today alone I have met many successful people. One over came the untimely death of her husband leaving her with 3 small children. She inspires people by sharing her story to others who experience hardship. Thats a successful person. Another wants to create a market opportunity for small podcasters and independent radio hosts, creating a platform for many to inspire, motivate and educate others. That person is a success. Create your own story and share it with me.
To your success. More to come on everydaySUCCESS.tv
